smol.

smol. is a Journey-esque personal project I prototyped and worked on to better understand Unreal Engine. I have always been hugely inspired by the minimalist art direction of Matt Nava (Flower, Journey, ABZU, The Pathless) and had an idea in mind for a 1st-person game about a girl exploring a semi-frozen landscape. I quickly blocked out the character using ZBrush and used an autorig to get her moving around. Her mechanics were very basic - she emits a single note song that spawns a visible soundwave which could facilitate interaction with the environment. By hitting transmitter objects, the result was a change in the environment [ie melting snow] similar to the time-shift mechanic in the Piccolo Studios game Arise.
